This morning we woke up refreshed from a deep night's sleep and enjoyed breakfast at our hotel. I actually love free breakfasts at hotels because it is always funny to me what foreign countries consider "breakfast." Nothing was too funky at this one except maybe this pasta looking thing but it was nice having such a beautiful fruit selection like passion fruit and papaya.
Anyways, we made our way to the Snake Farm at the Red Cross Society. Since Thailand has so many venomous snakes, snake bites had been a public health issue. So, they created this snake farm (second in the world after one in Brazil) in order to create anti-venoms.
We went with the plans to see a venom extraction but since it was a holiday (Buddhist holiday lasting 2 days) they weren't having one today. Instead, we got to see the snake meet and greet which actually ended up being awesome. They brought out a bunch of snakes, most of which were venomous and it was awesome seeing the Cobras up at attention! The snake handlers didn't even flinch which surprised me since we definitely saw evidence of snake bite scarring on one guy's hand! Yikes!! In the end, they even let us take pictures with one of the pythons, which are totally friendly and safe. It was fun and informative!
They even had this cool exhibit that taught me all about snakes like the difference between boys and girls, how they reproduce, and of course, snake bite prevention. There was a model of what can happen to you if you aren't treated from a venomous snake bite. Wow!! Watch out!
Afterwards, we hit up a small sushi restaurant that was really busy. We wanted to get some munchies since we figured we wouldn't be eating at the coming class until a little late.
Afterwards, we made our way to our cooking class with Silom Cooking School! It was awesome!! We started the tour by going to the market to get/learn about the ingredients that we would be using.
Then we took a tuk tuk to the Silom Thai Cooking School. Our teacher for the day was the cutest lady named "A." She was so funny and adorable and made the class so so fun! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. It's such a great experience and "souvenir" to take home with you!
There were 8 other people in our class: a couple from Spain, a couple from Holland, and 4 Emirates flight attendants who lived in Dunai but we're Polish and Croatian. On a random note, we've run into hardly no Americans which does and doesn't surprise me. Anyhow, we made 5 dishes and we made each course and then sat down to eat it before moving on to the next thing. The flow of it was great because it gave you time to enjoy each dish without getting too full. There were different menus for each day but ours was exactly what I would have picked if I could have made a custom menu!! We made tom yum soup, pad thai, penang curry, green curry, and mango sticky rice. Everything was so delicious and surprisingly easy. Now we'll see if we can make everything at home! Thai dinner party soon?!?
After our cooking class, we weren't hungry and it started to rain so we decided to just relax by going to he movies. Will and I have actually surprisingly gone to movies in a bunch of other counties. It seems like a strange thing to do but we love movies and it's always a good thing to do in the evening when things are closed since we aren't bar people. We went to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation in the theater in the Terminal 21 shopping mall. This shopping mall is actually really cool though because each floor is a major "city" and is designed around that theme. Also, there's a Bon Chon chicken in there and there was a long wait so basically, Thai people know what's up. Back to the movie, for the ticket there are different prices depending on your seat selection. We went with the most expensive tickets which were about $8 USD which gives you back area seating in comfy sofas. It was too comfy because this exhausted girl slept for 80% of the movie. Sometimes I fall asleep for a few minutes or so in a movie but I was so out that I have no idea what happened in the movie. Oops! Will watched it though.
After the movie, it was 10pm and we probably could've just gone to bed without eating diner but why do that when Bangkok has such delicious food?!? So we had to Thong Lo to go to Soul Food, a restaurant someone we know recommended. It had the vibe of a hipster gastropub but since today is a Buddhist holiday, all sales of alcohol are illegal. We didn't care though and the food was tasty! Then it was off to bed after another long and packed day!
