17 hours of travel time later...

So we decided to write a blog... or I did and Will said he'd interject here and there and the camera man! We figured we'd use this blog for this trip and maybe come back to it now and again throughout our married lives if we went on another big trip or had something major going on in our lives. Either way, I have the worst memory of anyone I know so I figured it'd be a good way to remember details so this blog is kind of more for ourselves than anyone else.

Well we didn't get a chance to write a post before we left..
We planned on it but we didn't decide to start packing for our trip until about 9pm and we needed to leave for the airport at 4am... also.. amidst all that packing, we got hungry so we made a McDonalds drive through run at 3am..

We ended up taking 4 suitcases on our trip! Originally we planned on nesting them like the picture below. Fellow Asians probably know all about this system but for those that don't, you nest one suitcase in another so you have an empty suitcase to take home all the purchases you plan on making it to the new country.. but then at the last minute we decided not to nest them since we each got 2 suitcases fee free. We also took an entire suitcase of vitamins and coffee for Will's extended family.. apparently that's what they want from America. We also just had a bunch of stuff.. it was hard to pack b/c the weather is super hot in Tokyo and Seoul but we needed warm clothes for the Mt. Fuji hike.

Here's my suitcase nested in my empty one. Unlike William, I'm a pretty light packer! : )

First we flew 6 hours to San Francisco. We slept the whole time since we stayed up all night. Then the long leg of the flight took 11 hours. We really lucked out on the flight though because we got awesome seats for the long flight. We sat on the first row of our section so there was nothing in front of us except for a large wall with the TV and it was pretty far away so we had lots of leg room and perfect viewing for the 4 movies we got to watch! The flight wasn't bad at all since we had so much space and the airline fed us every 4 hours. Here's a picture of one of the meals. I got lazy and didn't take pictures of the rest but my favorite was the late night snack of ramen noodles. yum!

Then we got to the airport and Will's cousin picked us up. We had no idea what we looked like but he found us using the description of Will's beard and shaved head. Will's cousin (not sure of anyone's name since everyone has Korean names and I can never remember them) took us to one of Will's aunts house and we hung out with his family for a bit, distributed some coffee and then a bunch more of his family came out with us for dinner.

We went to a Korean restaurant where we had yummy Korean BBQ and cold buckwhat noodle soup (sounds weird but is pretty tasty). Koreans, like Japanese, take their shoes off and sit at the floor to eat at low tables. I was fine with this but I decided that I would be careful about how much water I drank because I didn't want to have to walk barefoot into a public bathroom.

Here's a pic of some of Will's family! These guys are on his mom's side.. They are all super duper nice! They think I'm so adorable because I don't speak Korean and just smile a bunch.

Well today has been a pretty relaxing day. Seoul is pretty cool looking from what I've seen so far. It's very urban and all of the buildings are super tall but it's very "zen" looking too because of the mountains in the background and the very green vegetation everywhere! Today was not super eventful since we really just came in and saw family and had dinner but now we are going to rest up so we're ready for tomorrow!
